The Authority Files System

The UDC and Subject Authority File
Subject browsing is realized through alphabetic indexes of the UDC hierarchy (its divisions and subdivisions). The contents of the UDC and subject authority files are based on the bibliographic units of the library collection. They include notations of place, form, time, language, nationality and subjects belonging to various disciplines. Although the UDC schedules, published by the UDC Consortium, form the base of the system, some local solutions are visible in local UDC notations' combinations.
The relations established between the included subject headings are established similarly to those characteristic of thesaurus (BT, NT, RT). So has the initial UDC index been used as a starting point for the future bigger dictionary of controlled terms.
The subject browsing starts with the highest hierarchic level. Further moving through the whole structure is provided by associative links between the records, prompted by word searching of the subject headings and their synonyms (UF).

 The Authority File of Persons
The second authority file includes authors, editors, contributors and persons which appear as subjects of publications included in the catalogue. The records contain family and first names of the chosen persons and their variant forms and for most included Croatian scientists and artists additional data on their professions and dates.

 The Corporate Bodies' Authority File
The third authority file includes corporate authors, publishers, printers or institutions which appear as subjects of publications included in the catalogue. Some records are organized hierarchically (e.g. universities, their divisions and faculties or institutions like the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts with its component units).
